Series: Brides
A fascination for how people perceive people inspired these photographic artworks. Portraits are concerned with defining the physical likeness of their subject. Perhaps another way to discern the subject is not necessarily through their presence but by reading ‘the trace of being’ that remains in their absence. Being a bride for a day is a momentary thing when we consider the span of a life. This series utilises the materiality of tulle, its spectre-like ability to physically suggest a bride while simultaneously considering the transient and finite nature of being. In my art kit I had acquired remnants of tulle and ribbon, so each image was created from recycled fabric, used repeatedly, to imply different human forms and then captured as a photographic image.
